Oberdorla – The still relatively young mattress supplier Ergomed GmbH from Germany has set remarkable accents in the industry with top marks in the LGA certification of its products. Three top products from its ergovital brand – the items vitalpur, ergowell and vitalwell – were each awarded 100 out of a possible 100 points in a mechanical test for the criteria of long-term resilience, changes in height and hardness as well as the spring factor. At the same time, these products were certified according to Öko-Tex100.
What particularly characterizes the product quality of the ergovital premium line is the combination of cold foam and high-quality viscose foam implemented in the mattress core variants, as well as the use of high-quality materials in the cover fabrics, which is characterized by a high proportion of cotton, as well as the use of special functional fabrics such as medicare or coolmax by ergovital .
Ergomed GmbH was founded in 2002 as the second company alongside ESO-Textil GmbH, which had existed for ten years and processed foam into a variety of upholstered cushions on a large scale. Experiences of ESO-Textile in the production of products for comfort in the area of sitting have been transferred to lying. In this context, Ergomed remembers the difficult start and the years when losses had to be accepted as a result of learning processes, “which then turned into profit in 2007.”
Six successful years are now on the books. The portfolio with a turnover of currently 6 million euros per year: 60 percent of this is made up of deliveries, in particular of covers to processing companies, 20 percent is the sale of mattresses of the ergovital brand. In order to rationalize the work processes, a total of around 3.8 million euros have been invested so far, for example in new technology such as a CNC-controlled foam cutting machine, state-of-the-art sewing machines, quilting system, mattress quilting line and structural measures.
At the Oberdorla site in central Germany, 48 people are currently employed in the production of the range of ergovital mattresses, which are divided into the Comfort, Medisan and Premium segments. In Ergomed’s opinion, the complete custom cutting of the foam components for the cores and the manufacture of the covers justify the title “Made in Germany”.
The claim that Ergomed generally raises: “Using the latest findings, health-promoting mattresses and positioning aids are manufactured that are used in both the medical and private sectors.”
The ergovital premium line is particularly recommended for specialist retailers. It also wants to be more than a series of individual offers differentiated by bed and comfort. Ergomed commented: “We combine cold and viscoelastic foams with a high utility value and a new generation of mattress cover fabrics to create coherent articles that form a complex sleeping system with a matching wooden spring frame and a pressure-relieving pillow system”.
The ergovital brand had its trade fair premiere at the 2008 furniture fair in Cologne. Since then, the company has been appearing there permanently and increasingly representatively.
With www.ergovital-germany.com the company has a modern website.
Ergomed GmbH now also exports more than half of its mattress production. Customers are dealers in the EU area, such as the Benelux countries or Austria, as well as in Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, China and Thailand. “With our mattress production including special items for children, hotel equipment or medical purposes, we are actually still in the early stages,” is the summary at Ergomed. Showrooms are located in Guangzhou and Dubai. Aware of being able to come up with marketable products, we also look ahead: Together with the range of system frames, the extensive range of ergovital sleeping pillows and ergovital mattresses, specially tailored ergoair and ergoklima sleeping blankets, the best conditions are given to to profile as a sleep system provider and to establish it on the market.
“We want to be a small, fine family business,” says the managing partner of the company, Christian Szabo’s vision of the market presence of the subsidiary: Ergomed’s desirable goal must be to generate 15 million as annual sales.
